Social Mishap or Genius Advertising



I’m a typical Capricorn, my connection to Mother Earth, extends from my children to business. So everything I am passionate about is nurtured gently, and hopefully impactfully into the world.

For a long time now I’ve looked at the way various companies, NPO’s and individuals have embraced social media and marketing tools we have on line today. I keep the ideas in the back of my mind with the hope of adjusting and improving them to suit my own marketing needs.

There are trivial issues, like how you grow a facebook page or twitter profile. On some pages, the problem is easy to point out as to why a page is stagnant. Harping on about the same old issue or posting hundreds upon hundreds of random pictures, is so-to-say one and the same. There are tricks to sharing that help gain viewership.

In general people don’t adjust well to change. In a digital world however; where continuously upgraded technology is beneficial to users, it is vital to keep up-to-date and make adjustments to your marketing strategy.

Social platforms like facebook, twitter, pinterest and Linked In, you can say work hand in hand. There are excellent campaigns put into practice for instance the Easter facebook / Pinterest link up that was done by Pick n Pay. Its a simple yet effective tool to attract followers to all the networks you advertise on.


Whether you’re an individual, NPO or company having a social network “friend” base is “free” advertising. Not only that it personalises an outsiders experience with your product or service.

Ranting on your public page is as good as shouting at your customers in store. It can easily ruin a usually professional reputation. Yes your regular supporters may let it blow over, but to a newbie – one glance at a rant may turn them against you permanently. Click the “private” button and rant to your personal friends or join a closed forum where your rant can instead be a learning experience for like minded individuals.

That being said – a well explained rant on a blog can up your ratings and followers too. Why? Because you’re attracting like minded people.

You need to have a strategy in place that will benefit your product or cause. Of course you need room to manoeuvre in case an opportunity arises to increase your following.
